THERE was a boost in store for local Conservative campaigners when the Scottish party’s deputy leader swung by for a visit. MSP Jackson Carlaw, a Conservative team led by Moray MP Douglas Ross and local Buckie councillor Tim Eagle sought the views of people in Buckie on a range of issues. Mr Carlaw said: ‘It was great to join Douglas and the team in Buckie last week, where it was clear that the hard work of elected Conservatives at local level, Holyrood and in Westminster is delivering for the community. “Last week alone, our team delivered a whisky freeze, support for the high street, a tax cut for working people and a promise that we will leave the CFP. “It is clear in Moray, as with the rest of Scotland, that Scottish Conservatives are delivery for communities where the SNP fail them.” Mr Ross said he was very pleased to have Mr Carlaw’s energetic campaigning style on hand. “I was delighted to welcome Jackson to Buckie where he was keen to learn about local issues including cuts to council funding by the Scottish Government and securing a brighter future for the fishing industry following Brexit,” he said. “Jackson is a great campaigner and is obviously relishing his role as interim leader while Ruth is on maternity leave. Jackson listened very carefully to the concerns of our councillors, including Tim
Eagle, about the impact of the very unfair financial settlement that Moray Council receives from the Scottish Government. “This is something I know that my colleagues in the Scottish Parliament will be campaigning on in Holyrood.” Councillor Eagle added: “I was delighted that Jackson took the time to come to Buckie and to listen to the concerns of local residents.”
