Fab four join the coaching staff at Jags

BUCKIE Thistle have added four new coaches for next season. Ex-Buckie player Graeme Grant will come on board as first-team coach and will leave his role as a player at Strathspey at the end of the season. Frank McGettrick, a former youth coach at Elgin City, Ross County and Aberdeen, and currently helping out Lossiemouth, will be joint under-20 manager and first team coach. Frank has more than 40 years experience in youth and senior football. Iain Macrae, another ex-Buckie player, will take on the role of joint under-20s manager after having had a brief spell as manager at Lossiemouth. Scott Riddoch, who has been involved in youth coaching this season at the club, will become the assistant under-20s manager. Buckie boss Graeme Stewart said: “The guys will bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm. This will allow us to monitor and develop local talent more effectively.” The additions to the coaching staff were needed after Andy Low left earlier this year to join Inverurie Locos, while Stephen Bruce took up a new job in the United States of America, leaving just Stewart, Lewis Mackinnon and Darren Strong as first team coaches. Former goalkeeping coach Graeme Roy has been heading up youth development this season but he will step down at the end of the campaign. The under-17 side, managed by Roy, kept up their pursuit of a third place finish in the Highland League North with a 6-1 win over Rothes on Sunday, which included a hat trick for Sam Mair. Taylor Thain (2) and Saul Phimister also scored. The senior side’s league game at Strathspey Thistle on Saturday fell victim to the weather with the Grantown pitch snowbound. The Jags are away to Wick Academy on Saturday and need a positive result to hang on to seventh place. Their hosts are just two points behind them in the table and have two games in hand. n Buckie will reveal their player of the year awards after the home game with Huntly on Saturday, March 30. That will include the Banffshire Advertiser player of the year award, sponsored by the paper.
