Sam Robertson Heads Past keith Keepr Greg Simpson To Restore Buckie’s Lead At 2-1
Highland League By Craig Christie
OUT of shape last season, Buckie Thistle are now one of the fittest teams in the league and proved it with Saturday’s 8-2 derby thrashing of Keith. That’s the view of manager Graeme Stewart, who revealed how he gave his squad their hardest pre-season yet in an effort to bolster their challenge this term. And even after one of Jags’ biggest-ever wins over their Banffshire rivals, Stewart admitted it took some stern words at half time to spark a devastating second half show that floored Dean Donaldson’s Maroons. After Scott Adams gave Buckie an early lead, Jamie McAllister’s spectacular strike levelled for Keith who then threatened to take the lead in an even first 45 minutes. Goals by Sam Robertson and Craig Cowie in the closing moments of the half gave Jags a 3-1 lead they scarcely deserved, but it was a different story after the break. Kieran Adams quickly headed in a fourth, followed by a Sam Urquhart double and efforts by subs Callum Murray and Scott Graham to surge Buckie 8-1 ahead before Cammy Keith’s last minute penalty consolation. “I was not happy with the first half,” said Stewart. “I
thought we were poor, and we were lucky to go in 3-1 because there wasn’t too much in the game. “It wasn’t good enough, same as last week (against Strathspey) but in the second half maybe they’ve listened because I’ve torn a bit off them. “
