Buckie food bank use rises

BUCKIE’S food bank continues to serve an increasing need in the local community, recent figures have revealed. Run by Buckie Salvation Army Majors Bruce and Isobel Smith, who are in charge of the Buckie and Findochty Corps of the organisation, the food bank has been a resource of last resort of a growing number of families and individuals since it began in September 2017. According to Major Bruce Smith, the upward trend in usage has continued over the last quarter. He said: “Demand for the services of Buckie food bank run by the Salvation Army has continued to grow recently.
“In the past three months 132 food parcels have been requested. “These have given a three-day supply of food to a total of 280 people. “This represents a three-fold increase in the number of parcels and an almost four-fold increase in the number of people needing help compared to the same time last year.” Drop-off points for donations to the food bank can be found at Buckie Co-op and also at Lidl. The food bank is open to the public on Tuesday afternoons from 1.30pm to 2.30pm at the Buckie Salvation Army hall in New Street.
