A NOVEL collaboration between Buckie Community High School (BCHS) and a Moray performing arts school is seeing students offered a National Certificate in dance for the first time. BCHS’s music and drama department have teamed up with Lossiemouth Entertainment Academy (LEA) to begin the course for S3 students and upwards, which enjoyed its inaugural session recently. PT music and drama Amanda Craib said: “The course is a two-year rolling programme during which students can bank modules on their way to their certificate. “We’ve got 15 students signed up at the moment and they really enjoyed the first session, it’s really sparked a lot of interest. The students will also be looking at the theory side of dance as well as the practical side. “I’m delighted to have LEA on board and that they’ve taken this outreach project to Buckie – they thought it would be nice to have something in the wider community.” LEA head of centre Tish Tindall explained that course offered a valuable pathway for students to follow should they choose, something not easily available in areas such as Moray. “The NC in dance is the first step on the road to professional dancing,” she continued. “This can then lead to an HNC, then an HND and ultimately a degree if that’s the route a student wants to go down. It gives them the opportunity to stay here and study dance without having to go to the central belt to do it.
