IT WAS PART OF A DROP IN SESSION AT CULLEN COMMUNITY CENTRE TO RECORD FAVOURITE PLACES IN MORAY. SE ALANTHERE was a chance to mull over which are the best places in Moray when a pop-up session came to Cullen. The community and residential centre played host when the Discover Moray’s Great Places project invited local people along to share their thoughts on those areas that make the region stand out. Once the input from a number of similar sessions across Moray has been collated and analysed, the submissions made by members of the public will be used to bring forward new and innovative ways of representing the region further afield. One of those on hand to help collect a whole host of interesting facts and ideas was Neil Fergusson. He said: “We’ve held a number of different activities across Moray, including public dropin sessions, workshops, and meetings with specific groups, which has given a good spread of ages of residents – and sometimes visitors – of Moray a chance to get involved. “People have given us a lot of fascinating information. “One of the most interesting stories emerging from Cullen is one that I think may have been reported on in the Banffshire Advertiser back in June 1890. A riot in Seatown ensued on the attempts of Sheriff officers at evicting a Mrs Mitchell… quoting from The People’s Journal, Aberdeen “as soon as the fisher people of Seatown became aware of what was going on they returned the furniture to the house by the back door as fast as it was carried out the front door by Mr McGregor [Sheriff officer] and his assistants”, the story continues at https://www.moraysgreatplaces.com/home/2018/12/6/ rioter. Anyone who missed one of the pop-up sessions but would still like to contribute can do so up until February 24 at http://tiny.cc/ MoraysGreatPlaces There is also lots of content to respond to on the project website (www.moraysgreatplaces.com) or on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ moraysgreatplaces/) Discover Moray’s Great Places project is led by a partnership from public, private and voluntary sectors. This piece of work being delivered by Bright White Ltd and partners (including icecream architecture) has been made possible by funding from Heritage Lottery Fund, Moray Leader, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the Forres Area Community Trust, Findhorn Bay Arts, Business Gateway and Moray Speyside Tourism.
