A GROUP of young Rotarians have been lending their adult colleagues a helping hand as the Six Harbour Walk fundraiser approaches. It was a bright and early start for the 14-strong band of Cluny Primary youngsters, accompanied by parents and staff, on Thursday April 18 as they began a walk that would take them from Cullen all the way back to Buckie. With them was Cluny head teacher Claire Wood. “Our walk followed part of the route of the Six Harbour Walk, which is run by the Rotary Club of Buckie, with the aim of helping promote it and also doing a bit of a recce of the path to make sure it’s OK for May 5,” she said. “We had a representative from each class on the walk, which left at 9.30am in what was really beautiful weather. “On our way to Buckie we popped into Portknockie, Findochty and Portessie Primaries to talk a bit about the Six Harbour Walk, as well as stopping for a snack and later on some lunch. “We got back about 2pm having thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. “The group would like to thanks Mayne’s Coaches for providing the minibus which took us over to Cullen.” For the last two years the school have successfully run a young Rotarians group which is based on the model used by the adult organisation. They have a dedicated liaison person with Buckie Rotary and hold monthly meetings. The Six Harbour Walk is set to return on Sunday, May 5 after a break of a year necessitated by landslips blocking sections of the path between Sandend and Cullen. To register in advance for the event, which costs £10, visit www.sixharbourwalk. org It is also possible to register on the day of the event for £15. Set to receive a boost to their coffers from the proceeds of this year’s walk are the Rotary’s Shelter Box scheme, Sue Ryder hospices and Clan Cancer Support in Elgin. There is a change of venue for this year’s walk, with the South and West Church hall serving both as a base for registration on the Sunday morning then as the finish point for the event where a cuppa and shortbread awaits walkers.
