BUCKIE’S AARON McKENNA HURDLES PAST A RYAN SEWELL CHALLENGE

SHOCKING was Graeme Stewart’s candid one word assessment of Buckie Thistle’s performance as they were held to a goalless draw by strugglers Lossiemouth on Saturday. The Jags’ season hit a low as they failed to find a way past a defence that had conceded 110 goals in 22 games before the weekend. While Lossie take great credit from the game and had chances to win it in the second half, Buckie lacked the inspiration to cut them open. The Jags dominated the first half and had they taken one of the chances that came their way they may well have gone on to win the game comfortably. They didn’t and even the addition of the talismanic Kevin Fraser in the closing 20 minutes failed to find a breakthrough, although he did hit a post with a shot. Sam Robertson headed over after five minutes and then Callum Murray swung and missed at the ball from close range. Robertson failed to connect with the ball from six yards and then Lewis Mackinnon had a diving header from a corner well saved by Stewart Black. A further two chances fell to Robertson before the break but Black pulled off good saves to ensure his goal wasn’t breached. Lossie created nothing of note in the first half but it was different after the break as they came out a different team. Brodie Allen forced a
good save from Lee Herbert and the teenage keeper pulled off an even better save to tip a rasper from James McLaren over the bar. Ryan Sewell clipped the crossbar from his corner kick and as Buckie failed to clear the ball Scott Campbell followed up with an effort which also came back off the bar. That was all in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Buckie struggled to find any shape to their game and only the return of Kevin Fraser from injury in the closing 20 minutes offered any hope of a goal but the closest he came was firing a shot off Black’s right-hand
post. Stewart said: “I thought the first half we did all right. We dominated but we are struggling to score goals right now. “When you don’t score in the first half against the likes of Lossiemouth, no disrespect to them, they will hold on and dig in for the second half. I thought they played well in the second half. “We started panicking which was poor from us and mis-hitting passes. “Unfortunately confidence is low right now and we need to take it on the chin. They weren’t doing what we were telling them to do.
“We didn’t play well
and Lossiemouth deserved their draw. The talent
we have in that dressing room is frightening and if we can’t win these games then they need to look at themselves. We need to sort it out.” Buckie: Herbert, Dorrat, Morrison, Wood, Adams, MacKinnon, Murray (Skinner 59), Robertson, McKenna, Cowie (Fraser 69), Adams (Milne 59). Not used: McKenzie, Carroll.
