THERE was a silver lining to the weather claiming the Jags game at Nairn County on Saturday when a frozen pitch saw the league tie postponed. Buckie had been hoping to get back to winning ways after a poor performance at Victoria Park the previous week saw them draw with Lossiemouth. Thistle manager Graeme Stewart said: “It was both a relief and a frustration that the game was off. “We were chomping at the bit to get back into action and get a win under our belts after the Lossie game. “However, it allowed us to have an extra training session. This was particularly important for the likes of Andy MacAskill, who’s coming back after having appendicitis. “He got a two-hour run out as opposed to sitting on the bench at Nairn, as he would’ve have done if the game had gone ahead and he’s felt the benefit of it.”
Weather permitting, the Jags will resume league action on Saturday at home to take on Deveronvale. It is a game in which Stewart believes forward MacAskill could well play a key role for the hosts. “We’re looking to get back to winning ways but it will be a tough game,” Stewart continued. “They’re a young, fit aggressive team and it’s important that we start well against them. “If we don’t, they’ll gain confidence and it will be very difficult to get into the game. “I’m hoping that Andy MacAskill will be fit for the game, he’s been a key
player and one of the best for us this season. He’s our second top scorer and top for assists, which shows you just how important he is for us.” Last week saw Thistle
bid farewell to fans’ legend Andy Low, who had been serving as a coach with club. Low has left the club for Inverurie Locos after stating he wanted a post nearer his Aberdeenshire home. Stewart added: “Andy wasn’t sure at the beginning of the season. I need people who are 100 per cent committed to the club and that applies across the board. As far as I’m concerned Buckie is the biggest club in the league with the best fans and they deserve 100 per cent commitment. “We wish Andy good luck at Inverurie”.
