THE heavens may have opened at times on Saturday’s Buckie It’s a Knockout but that mattered little to the competitors as a day of fun, foam and fundraising got underway.
Linzee Gordon Park was once again the venue for the event , now in its seventh year, involving a variety of inflatable obstacle courses and challenges, with both junior and senior teams battling it out for the honour of being the best in their category.
Claiming the senior championship were Buckie’s own Team Rehab.
The beneficiary of the proceeds of this year’s extravaganza are Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS) who ended the day with a boost of more than £3000 for their local coffers.
It’s a Knockout organiser Denise Thomson said she was very pleased with the way this year’s event had panned, out despite a team from Montrose pulling out at the last minute.
She said: “Overall I’m very pleased indeed with how it went.
“Obviously, with fewer teams we didn’t raise as much but we got over £3000 and, just as importantly, it raised awareness of chest, heart and stroke issues as well as the work CHSS do in this area.
“The weather maybe wasn’t the best but it was played in a great spirit and a lot of the teams enjoyed themselves so much they said they were coming back next year. We actually had teams from all over, including Forres, Elgin, Keith, Lossiemouth, Portsoy and Banff. Four different Co-op branches also put in teams.
“Congratulations to all the winners, including Team Rehab who won the senior title.
“My thanks go to the teams, everyone who helped out and, of course, those who braved the weather to come along and back Buckie It’s a Knockout.”
Mrs Thomson added that the response to this year’s event was such that she was already looking forward to Buckie It’s a Knockout 2019.
There was plenty to do for visitors to the event away from the field of play, including a funfair, kiddies’ rides, trade and community group stalls and a beer tent. The evening saw a disco held at the park.
Providing the It’s a Knockout this year was Graham Fisher’s International It’s a Knockout.
