YOUNG people from the Buckie area are being offered the chance to bid for a share of a £9000 funding pot. Applications opened yesterday for the Buckie YP Decide with grants ranging from £100 to £1000 up for grabs. Both individuals and groups of young people aged five to 25 who live in the Buckie area can apply to the scheme, which is not only for young people but is run by young people, too, as Buckiebased community learning and development senior youth worker Barbara Leitch explained. “The grants can be used for all kinds of things – sports, events young people are holding, young people’s
organisations like the BBs and Guides, and many, many different things. Buckie YP Decides is run and judged by young people.” Mrs Leitch said that after the February 8 closing date applicants would be called to a development workshop. Feedback will be given and applicants will then have until February 25 to
submit their final applications for a grant. Mrs Leitch added: “On March 4 there will be a showcase event from 5pm until 6pm in Buckie Community High School’s assembly hall. Each applicant or group will have a pinboard display outlining what they’d like to do with the money.” Email barbara.leitch@moray.gov.uk for an application form.
