Good clean fun at Findochty

A DETERMINATION to improve the local environment saw a team of 20 volunteers, young and old alike, gather at Findochty for a beach clean. The latest in a series of litter picks organised by local man John Stuart and his son William (5) saw the team gathering to the west of the harbour to rid the area of rubbish. There was plenty to keep them occupied, their labours yielding no fewer than seven sacks of litter. The litter pick was declared a good day’s work by Mr Stuart. “It was a very good litter pick and we managed a lot quite quickly,” he said. “That’s a total of 61 bags of litter we have lifted from local beaches so far. “We’ve had very positive comments from people so far and it’s a great opportunity for people to get together and help their community. “We’re currently conducting a poll on Facebook for which site we should turn our attention to next. Everyone’s welcome along to the beach cleans – we’d be glad to see you.” The Findochty beach clean was
the latest in a series of similar events which began at the Sannie Craig in the village back in April and have also taken in Ianstown and Strathlene. Mr Stuart was first inspired to undertake the beach cleans by the state of the beach near his Ianstown home, which was littered with many items of plastic and other rubbish, from wellies to plastic nets.
