Ladies sweep Nairn aside

BUCKIE Ladies made the most of their friendly clash away to Nairn when they netted six times to record their biggest victory to date. Sunday saw the team unleash the whirlwind against the hosts, going in at half-time 5-2 to the good. Buckie took their foot off the throttle in the second half and nearly paid the price as Nairn’s deadly counter attack took its toll, the score sitting at 5-4 when a last minute strike put the result beyond doubt. It was a day to remember for Rebecca McMillan, who claimed her first ever hat trick, going on to finish the day with four goals to her name. Also finding the net for the visitors were Vicky Masson-Coulville and Hailey Thain. A delighted Buckie Ladies boss Mel Smith said: “It was a brilliant performance, especially in the first half. “We were 4-0 up in 18 minutes and attacking all the time and we could’ve finished the game with a double figures score. It wasn’t a situation we are used to and that was nearly our undoing in the second half, they didn’t know how to handle being in a dominant position. Nairn’s counter-attack caught us twice on the break and it made for a nervous finish. “There were a lot of positives to take away from this, but we’ve lots of things to work on, too like keeping our shape. The game was a good confidence boost for us and it was a chance for some of the players who haven’t had a lot of games to show me what they can do.” Smith picked out midfielder Karen Brockie for “giving 150 per cent” for the side.
