HEAVEN, what it means and how it affects the way people live today were all under the spotlight when the 34th Keswick in Buckie (KIB) convention came to town. Taking place in the North Church Hall, Christians from across the country joined together to examine various aspects of heaven along with the convention’s three guest speakers Revs Malcolm Duncan, Alan McKnight and Derek Burnside. Sunday, August 4 saw the Fishermen’s Hall host a first for KIB in the shape of a session, called Afterlife – Celebrate the Hope, which aimed to attract a wider audience who might not otherwise go to the convention or church. It featured music from Ranan plus testimonies. KIB chairman Bill Mowat said: “It’s gone really well numbers are up on last year, which is very encouraging. “There was a lot of really good, thought-provoking teaching from our guest speakers. It was also heartening to see the success of Afterlife and how it reached out to a wider group of people. It’s definitely something we’d look at doing again.” Rev Duncan focused on heaven today and what it means.
“I was encouraging people to be shaped in their current life by God’s future promise, especially those who are currently suffering loss or heartbreak,” he continued. “Hopefully it was comforting and inspiring as well.” Rev Burnside examined heaven through the lens of five parables told by Jesus.
