THREE local primary schools were on song when they performed in the first ever Moray heat of a national choir competition. Findochty, Millbank and Portessie were joined by youngsters from Bishopmill, Kinloss, Mosstodloch and Greenwards Primaries in Elgin Town Hall on May 7 as the Frisson Foundation Scottish Glee Challenge got under way. Bishopmill were to walk away with the first prize with Mosstodloch a close second, with the former school qualifying for the national finals. There was nevertheless glory to be had for Findochty who were awarded the Spirit for Glee trophy after performing I Believe. Delighted Findochty Primary headteacher Dawn Thomson told the Advertiser: “I am very proud of our Glee group, they were a mixture of P1-7 pupils and they were fantastic. “The evening was a great success with lots of different interpretations of the music. Everyone involved relayed a positive message telling the story of their song through their dancing and actions.
“The theme for the evening was Life, Journeys and Dreams and everyone left the event in a very uplifted and positive mood.” Presenting the prizes on the evening was Moray Council children and young people’s services committee chairwoman Councillor Sonya Warren, who is also a representative for the Buckie ward. “Well done to all the schools taking part, it was a very high standard and a very close competition,” she said. “Congratulations to Bishopmill Primary on winning and good luck to them going forward to represent Moray in the national finals in Dundee next month. “I was also delighted to see Findochty Primary being awarded the Spirit of Glee. “All seven schools taking part in the Moray finals did very well.”
