THE sale of Cullen town hall has been welcomed by a local councillor. Friday, January 18 saw the application from Moray Council, who own the premises, was approved at a hearing in Elgin Sheriff Court on Friday, January 18, to sell the hall from the Cullen Common Good portfolio The sale was unopposed and attracted two letters of support from the community. Set to purchase the building from the local authority is property developer MPD, run by local man Charles Milne. The upper part of the premises will form an extension to the neighbouring Seafield Arms Hotel – also owned by the firm – while the lower level, including the Memorial Hall, will be leased for the peppercorn sum of £1 a year to a local community group. Councillor Theresa Coull said: “I am delighted that this has passed through the court and can now progress for the Cullen community and MPD. It is an ideal situation for both parties having the ground floor for community use and an expansion to the hotel which is being extensively upgraded. “It is a win-win situation all round for two of the largest buildings facing the square.” Mr Milne added: “This is very positive move for Cullen as it allows the upper hall to be developed to compliment the adjoining Seafield Hotel development and allows continued used of the lower hall.”
