TWO cargo vessels calling at Buckie Harbour last week were involved in a collision which left one ship holed. The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 16 at around noon in basin one of the harbour. The MV Torpo was berthed at pier one while offloading her cargo of animal feed. Meanwhile, at the nearby pier two, MV HS Bravery was moored having already had her cargo of malt taken offloaded and taken ashore. At midday the master of the HS Bravery decided to take his vessel out of the harbour and put to sea. However, it was during this process of leaving Buckie Harbour that the bow of HS Bravery came into contact with the port quarter of the Torpo. This left the latter ship with a hole in her hull, although it was above the waterline. Following the incident, which occurred at low speed, the Bravery
continued on her voyage. A spokeswoman for Moray Council confirmed that an incident had taken place at the harbour between the two ships. She continued: “An incident involving slow speed contact between two vessels at Buckie harbour occurred on April 16. “No Moray Council vessels were involved. “In line with our statutory obligations as harbour authority, we have reported the incident to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.”
