BCHS girls revel in double glory

WINNING that very first trophy is a special moment for any football team, but to do so with a league and cup double is a memorable achievement indeed. However, that is exactly what Buckie Community High School’s under-15 girls team have done, claiming the North of Scotland Cup last Monday, which will join the Moray League trophy captured the Tuesday prior to that. The eight-strong squad comprising of goalkeeper Lori Lappin, Caitlin Carnegie, Janey Bain, Catie Carter, Amy Bruce, Reagan Duncan, Kayla GrantFielding and Brooke Keenan swept all before them in both competitions. In the league, which took the format of three round robin tournaments held through the year, the girls romped home, scoring 83 goals and only dropping points in a draw with Elgin Academy. In the cup, where they faced Elgin Academy, Millburn Academy, St Machar Academy and Grantown Grammar, they were to emerge undefeated,
drawing again with Elgin but claiming the scalps of the other schools. Principal teacher of PE at BCHS, Colin Smith, said: “They’ve done amazingly well not losing a game in either competition and getting these trophies gives their confidence a huge boost. It shows them what they can achieve.” Adding his voice to the congratulations was BCHS rector Neil Johnson. He commented: “I’m delighted at the success that hard work and commitment has brought to our girls. “We have had considerable success in boys’ competitions over the past few years. I’m delighted that the girls are now getting their share of the spotlight. Well done to them and the staff and families who support them.” Mr Smith also paid tribute to coaches Sophie Henderson(S6) and Jodie Murray(S5)
as well as teacher Fiona Dixon for all their hard work on behalf of the squad.
